Don't Mess With Angles

Sorry that it's been a bit since I've added a post. My scanner got mad at me and wouldn't talk to my computer any more. Today it just up and died on me. Looks like I'll be looking for new scanner soon.

So, this is another illustration that I ended up just photographing and then fiddled with it in Photoshop. I've got much to learn about that program, but I think I'm getting a bit better at it.

I think it's no secret that I am a person of faith. Much of the Bible creates interesting visual images for me, and since I am a visual thinker I enjoy putting the images of Bible passages down on paper.

Angels, in the classical sense, are visually interesting creations to me. Often people depict them as gentle creatures, but if you read much of the Bible you quickly discover that they're actually pretty tough dudes. Especially Michael. You don't want to mess with him.

I'm glad that angels are on my side. Can I get an "Amen"?

In other news... I was doing a little blog suffering the other day and ended up over at ournameisblog blog, and entered a contest. Today I received notice that I won this watch.

I think it suits me well. Can I get another "Amen"?

That's great! I never win.. Love your Angel. I've always liked Michael the ArchAngel the best. :)
I'd like to think of him in light of the movie Michael, but my husband keeps telling me NOT. Thanks for your post.

Love the "tough" angel. I'm always telliing people that angels are pretty tough characters really, but there are so many images of cherubs on clouds that it doesn't really seem to get through...

What a cool watch - congrats on your win.

I like your angel, he means business! I like the thought that these guys are sorounding my family - especially the kids. You always see them depicted as gentle women with flowing hair & a fairy-like apperance. But in the Bible they are tough dudes not to be messed with.
I used to laugh at what I called the 'Schwartzen-angels' prints in Christian bookstores. You know, a beefed up bodybuilder type angel standing watch over a child sleeping? I always thought they were funny but now I think they are not far from the truth.

I LOVE THAT WATCH that is just perfect ... I am so tickled for you! you are so right on the Angels... When I read the bible i see these beings who are so frightening that the people facing them are cowering and hiding... Michael has to be so big and fierce ... cory has a cool coin with Michael on it that he wants to have made into a tatoo one day as Michael represents protection for the police... Cant think of the exact term but anyway ... cool drawing and again cool watch!
Hugs Laura

Rick,

This is a really nice blog. I'm going to enjoy checking out your illustrations. You'll definitely end up on my BlogRoll, I like to feature artists. the painters and the sketchers. The truth is, I stand amazed and slightly jealous because I never could advance beyond stick people. lol

Thanks for visiting my blog. I'll be sure to stop by your blog often.

Angels: They are all around. I've been convinced that I have a guardian angel for many years now, especially in the past several months, more than ever.

Thanks for the comment. I knew you would come through. You are the angel and I love that we are just normal people who happen to share our lives on the internet. Truly an eye opening experience to what and who the world is...

I'll take your advice to heart.
