An Organized Doodle

Now for some- thing totally differ- ent...

This is a sketch that I've been playing around with while the wife and I have been watching the Olympic games.

Some of you, I think, would consider this an actual doodle. It started because I wanted to try out a new Sharpie pen that I picked up (which I like very much). Also, I was trying to imitate, just a bit, the style of Andrea Joseph - one of the few artist whose blog I visit regularly. I really like her work.

I began by drawing the stylized black heart in the middle. Then I remember that a friend had given me a set of Pilot colored pens for my birthday, and so I started adding stuff to the illustration. My colors were limited to the colors of the pens in that set, and my goal was really nothing more than trying to fill a piece of paper.

It is likely that you'll see this doodle again because I'll probably end up trying to fill in more of the empty spaces. You wouldn't mind a repeat - would you?

Now go pick up a pen and try some doodling yourself. Don't tell me that you can't do at least that. There's an artist within you - for some of you he's really deep down inside you, but he's there. So give it a try - and e-mail me a copy. I'm going to steal your work.

Its really pretty. And how funny I just made a doodle last night. I need to scan it and send it to you. Who knew there were different levels of doodlability!!!Trust me you will not use mine.

Okay, I am fairly new but isn't that variation of "eggy" - the purple figure that appears to be running on the stripe of green in the lower, left corner? Maybe I am way off or reading into the doodle too much but it looks like him to me! :o) Jenn

To Jenn: Well done Obi Wan Jenn. You are now an Eggy-i Master.

OH RICK I just love that 'doodle' and if you ever finish it and want to sell it.... MY HAND IS UP!!! Eggy is beautiful BTW.. very clever to morph him into a more 'substantial' eggy.

To Chris: Wow Chris. I didn't expect that kind of response. I have already doodled on it a bit more. I'll e-mail you direct and we'll talk turkey - or doodles.

I am showing everyone my new Rick Green 'doodle' on me blog tomorrow.. even though it's unfinished... I LOVE IT!!! It is so funky! I am going to hang it in a special place in my new home, somewhere where it will be seen by everyone who visits.

I like it! The colors work very well as well as the flowing design. It kind of looks like they are being blown by wind or a fan, pretty cool.

Really cool! I used to draw a bit and paint, but not in many years.

Dream on friend, I will NOT be sending any samples your way. You are the gifted one.

Hi Rick! I love the way you shaded the shapes in this! It adds a textural quality that draws me into this doodle - very well done!

Boy I feel like I've been out of touch with the blog world for a long time! We've added a deck to our house and also just got back for a week long backpacking trip to the High Sierras.

The OC Fair went great! I didn't win any awards but I did sell 3 paintings because of my entries and I gained 2 new collectors. 2 of my paintings were just juried into the Orange Open Art Show as well. Since I was away I have no idea if I won anything or if either of them sold. I'll find out tomorrow when I go to the gallery.

Thanks for asking and keeping in touch!

Your blog is really entertaining and I especially like this doodle. I too just love Andrea Joseph's work. Such a simple medium turned into such fantastic art. I really like your "doodles", and I like your attitude. You have a beautiful family and obviously love life. Thank so much for your comments on my blog - so nice to find a fellow believer on the Internet. Happy doodling!

What a beautiful doodle. The only thing that I can doodle is a daisy or a tree.

I must admit, however, that I'm a sharpie addict. Life is so much better when you're surrounded by sharpies.

I love it...recognised the egg man right away...purple is his color for sure :)

I love this doodle. The colors are great, the hearts are fun, the stars & the lil pink daisy...it just makes me smile.
