A Sooner Fan in Kentucky

Now back to posting more cartoons. I think that this just might be the last of the caricatures that I had to draw that people wanted to use as Christmas gift.

These are the three men in Reagan's life. She tells me that she not much of a Sooner fan, but that her husband is a life long fan. I am guessing that the boys have followed along in their father's foot steps.

This illustration is similar to one that I drew for a friend and posted back on October 26. Reagan saw that one and asked me to create an illustration incorporating an OU theme. At first I was trying to avoid drawing the Sooner Schooner (a covered wagon that they roll out on the field everytime there is an OU touch down) but the concept is just too good to ignore just because I want to do something different. So, I thought that I could change it up a bit by adding the tiny Long Horn in the mix. If you're from Oklahoma or Texas you have no doubt what the Long Horn respresents. If there are any Texas fans out there, feel free to commission me to illustrate the reverse concept. I can be bought.

I grew up in SE Okla, and well aware of the infamous land run - we learn that in early Okie history. I always found it interesting that it became a mascot. After high school, I was accepted at Okla St - the Cowboys, and while Texas was always publicized as OU's arch enemy, the Cowboys waned more than anything to be the state's #1 football team. Never happened, but there were plenty of pep rallys and parties. Jimmy Johnson was our coach vs. Barry Switzer (we were 0-8) before JJ went onto fame and glory with U of Miami.
So if you ever want to grab an audience, look up the mascot Pistol Pete of OSU and have him "hold-up" a sooner stagecoach. That would make for good fun.. NLM

Rick, Doug loved his drawing! I don't know how I will ever top this Christmas gift! He was so touched and he had no idea that was the best part! And yes, the boys are following in their dad's footsteps, they are huge OU fans!!! Thank you once again! And blessings to you and your family!

Great drawing, Rick! My oldest son is a huge Texas fan, so I'm thinking he would be cringing at this one, but I think it's funny! What a nice Christmas gift this made, a dad, his sons and football, perfect!

Rick, I'm the dad in that picture! Thank you thank you thank you. Your work is now a prized possession. The long horn was a great touch. And even though I am licking my wounds from the 2nd Fiesta Bowl debacle in as many years, I was proud of the entire Big 12 for doing so well. My boys are my pride and joy and they loved seeing themselves in cartoon fashion sitting on the Sooner Schooner along side their dad. Now, that drawing will take a prominent place in my office. Don't be surprised if you end up with a lot more requests for drawings. Everyone that sees mine says, "OOOooo that would be cool if it had *name your favorite team* and my family etc." Very nice work. Even my co-worker friends, an OSU Cowboy and a Texas fan love it. (I too, have wondered why OU chose a cheater for their mascot. And if you think a duck is bad, try the UC Santa Barbara Banana Slugs - now that would make an interesting picture.)
