Cave Art

Shannon contacted me about creating a caricature of her husband, Josh, for his birthday. She said that he is a marathoner, plays poker, is an avid 49er and, Iowa Hawkeye fan.

On top of that she kept saying that this illustration was going to be hung in his "man cave." With that in mind I suggested that I doodle him in a Flintstone-like setting and put him in some kind of skin with a rough 49er's print on it.

She wrote, "In talking about this with a friend, they said they can totally see Josh sitting there like a caveman... (I like her friend) We just cannot forget the frothing beer!"

So... that's what she got—a caveman in his man-cave, with man-cave furnishings, AND with frothing beer in man-mug and all.

I had a bunch of fun with this one. I haven't heard what Josh's reaction was, but I put in a lot of little details to keep his cave-mind occupied.

What do you think?

I posted two previous caveman doodles here, and here. Actually, I hadn't realized that I had such a growing collection of cave art.

That is great Rick. My hubby would love a man cave but I got the spare room for my craft 'cave' instead!

Hope you enjoyed yourselves yesterday.

that's a great fun cartoon :) Thanks for popping by my blog. You asked about choosing a printer for printing prints, I spent months looking into this, depends on what you are wanting to do with it, and the quality you need. If you go along to the forums on Etsy in Community and search under printer you will find loads of really helpful info that I used to make my mind up. Good luck :) Catherine

This is awesome, Thanks! I showed Josh your post and he was very flattered to be featured! He loves his drawing and says it's one of the best gifts he's ever received.

Thanks so much!

"Man Cave" was a term invented by the HGTV network. Find out the real deal at www.themantuary.com

I know quite a few husbands that are caveman-like who would get a kick out of this drawing. Love the stitching on the shoulder of his cave-shirt, a nice touch! Poor Eggy, is he being squished by that dino-dog?

BTW - I highly recommend the "Artist" ribbon. When an opinion is required about color (or anything visual for that matter) I simply pin it on and give my official opinion.

It looks just like him!!! It's every man's dream to have their own man cave I guess.

What I would like to know is, in the photo of him looking all relaxed and smiling and energetic ... is that BEFORE or AFTER he ran the marathon?

Because if it's AFTER ... well, I am quite impressed. And a little annoyed. Mostly impressed though.
