Computer Confusion

Vincent and his wife Melissa are friends of ours. She asked me to create a surprise Christmas gift for him. So that's what I did.

Vincent is the computer guru at his place of employment and so I decided to put him the midst of a bunch of computer confusion.

I neglected to scan the photos that I used of Vincent so you don't have a way make a comparison between the real him and the doodled him, but I think that it came out well. They were pleased.

Now a blast from the past...

Many, many, moons ago Brenda commissioned me to draw an illustration of her husband Chris. Yesterday she presented it to him as a birthday gift. (Wow, Brenda, it's been nearly a year since I posted the caricature of your husband - no need to be in any kind of hurry.)

She said that he loved his doodle. I am told that he wasn't feeling very good that day. I appreciate him posing for these photos just to please me.

I also like the photos that Brenda posted on her Facebook account of their 25th Wedding Anniversary in Antigua.

Don't they make a cute couple.
I think that's a tiny outhouse behind them.

Nebraska has been experiencing an Arctic blast.
Brenda says that she wants to move to Antigua.
I can't understand why.

This is a photo of her foot.
For some reason she felt it important for me to see this pic.
The Good Lord only knows why.

Thanks again Brenda. You're a fun person to kid around with. Stay warm and give my regards to the family.

Snapper Chris

This was a first for me. Just a little while back Chris asked me to create something for a tattoo of a snapper fish that she and her husband want to have done. He, for his chest and she, for her leg.

Wow! My art enshrined in flesh! Sounds kinda'... kinda'... personal to me.

Chris sent me this illustration of a snapper, but said that she wanted her fish to be "kinda swimming uphill, curving to the right. With big lips! And a cheeky smile! and bubbles/water around."

I thought, "this snapper will be a snap," and so then I put together this illustration for her.

Chris' response was less than enthusiastic. She thought the eyes were too buggy, and the teeth were too teethy. Then she followed up those comments by finally telling that "snapper" was something her husband called her, (Awe - how cute!!) and so the fish was suppose to be her.

Now you tell me Chris!!! Why didn't you say that in the first place?

With that bit of insight I went to work on feminizing the little critter and then this is what I came up with...

Christina Joy was happy with the sex change procedure transition and then so was I.

After going to work on coloring in her snapper this was the final result...

What do you think? The lady that always makes my color copies of the drawings for me said that this one was her favorite, and she's seen a lot of my illustrations. You regulars might notice one addition to the final piece.

Chris promises to send a photo of the tattoo once it's... it's... umm... planted. So, I'll post that photo later.

Another note: This represents another first for me. Chris and family live in New Zealand, so this is the first time that one of my illustrations has made it to Middle Earth. ("Lord of the Rings" humor there.)

Be sure to check out her blog. She's a fun, spicy gal, and if you're really nice to her, she might even call you "mate."

Brenda's Brave

Brenda, (Who seems to be in the habit of calling me "Ricky"), came to me with a request for an illustration of her husband, Chris.

She said that Chris is a big Iowa Hawkeyes fan, as well as a Kansas City, Chief's fan. I got to choose which team to use in the illustration and so I decided on the Chiefs. Some how it seemed like the logical choice to me - don't ask me why. As you can tell from their photo, Brenda and Chris are a good looking couple, and you know how I hate to illustrate good looking people. But I suffered through and we "got ur done."

The addition of their Pomeranian pup was Brenda's idea. I thought it added a lot of fun to the drawing.

Brenda is planning ahead because she said that this drawing is intended to be a Father's Day gift. (Which, if you're thinking about an illustration for Father's Day, I highly recommend because I fear that I could be getting really busy around then. So, get your orders in early boys and girls.)

Brenda said that she is not letting Chris see my blog. So it was safe to post this illustration. I don't know how I should feel about that. I mean, denying him the joy of taking in all the fine, high art on my blog? I guess that it's ok. After all, we're talking about an expression of her love here. (Oh gawsh!)

Thank you Brenda for allowing me to create this gift for you. I appreciate all your comments on the old blog, and you're welcomed to call me "Ricky" anytime. After all, it's what my mother first called, and she's a pretty terrific lady.

And if you haven't gotten the hint yet, go check out Brenda's blog NOW!!!
