Wuv You

I've been slow getting through my list of doodle request lately. One of the reasons is that our middle daughter came in for a quick visit from Oklahoma. On Saturday she offered to take us out to our favorite little greasy spoon in town.

The youngest jumped into the driver's seat and said she was driving. She had the jams pumped up and was acting a little crazy. She gets that from her mother.

It's pronounced "Fee-Lee's." The condition of the sign speaks well to the condition of the interior, but year after year it is voted the best hamburger in town. You'll find it down at the port, right by Sport Haven Beach, on the great big Pacific Ocean. Go ahead and bring your laundry while you're there getting a bite to eat.

Three of my girls just prior to the big feast.

The in-laws met us there. They frequent the joint.

Feeding the gulls. They are always around, looking for a handout. Yes, they're basically rats with feathers. I know what you're thinking... "The Birds!" Alfred could have made a scene for his flick there.

The girls took a run throug the gulls. (Disclaimer: No seagulls were hurt in the preparation of the post.)
We all took a walk out onto the jetty. This is where the Chetco River meets the Pacific Ocean.

Marylynn will probably shoot me for posting this pic—her hair had that ocean breeze effect going. But I like her smile. I'm looking a big strange, but hey! Who am I trying to impress?

I've laid in bed at night and heard this fog horn going off many times. I wouldn't want to be standing there when it does.

Self portrait. The Old Salt himself.

Here's another little quick doodle for your viewing pleasure. It speaks for itself, and it's so true.

Airplane Art - Homecoming Trip

I flew back to Oklahoma last week - this time with my wife and youngest daughter. We were there for a happy reason this time - our middle daughter was being presented in the Homecoming court at her university - which is also the alma-mater of both my wife and I.

It is with no small pride that I tell you she was crowned Homecoming Queen! What a joy! We're very proud of all our girls, but that was a special moment for us.

The added joy of going was that we got to see our eldest daughter and her (serious) boyfriend as well. So we had a bit of a family reunion.

As usual, I took my pad and created some more airplane art. I did a LOT of doodling on this trip. I don't think that I'll post it all at once. But here is an example of the kind of stuff that I do while I'm traveling - off the cuff (way off) - just whatever comes to mind. Don't ask me to explain it. The answer is that I don't know where it comes from. I just start drawing and this "stuff" comes out.

The egg-man is easy to find in this one.

Family Practice - What Daughter?

I have learned that if the list of items that my wife wants me to pick up at the store is larger than three items then she must write it down on a piece of paper, otherwise, I will forget at least one of them.

Here is yet another installment of Family Practice based upon my life -- and that of my wife who must deal with the aspects of living with a forgetful husband.

My Daughters - Holy Ghost Riders

Here is the photo that I wrote about earlier. These are my three girls again posing in the t-shirts that I gave them for Christmas. This was taken on Christmas Eve of '06.

A few years ago I began a tradition of giving the girls a present that was specifically from me. In the past the gifts have had something to do with sleeping... i.e. pajamas with feet one year, satin pillow cases, blankets, etc. etc. I guess this year it was for a shirt to sleep in. They seemed to like the shirts, so I guess I did alright.

Our youngest, the dark haired one, had figured out what I was getting them. She saw a note on my desk which told her what the gift was. I guess I'll have to do a better job of clearing off my desk top next year.

But now there are a few of us around town who proudly call themselves, "The Holy Ghost Riders." The only requirement for membership is a t-shirt. You don't even have to own a bike - you just have to want to own one.

For The Record

Some have suggested that my comments about the January 31st cartoon said that I used my daughter, Andrea, as the model for the "beauty queen" in the drawing. For the record, I did not. I did say that she inspired the drawing because of her election to the Valentine court at her school. There is a connection in the hair color.

This photo shows all three of my beautiful daughters. From left to right: Tarah, the oldest, Marla, the youngest, and Andrea, my middle daughter.
