Beaver Trap

Becky commissioned me to create a Christmas gift for her husband Ron (a.k.a. Ronnie). Ron is a trapper and together, Becky and I came up with this particular scenario for his caricature.

I've stated before that I like cartoons where nature gets even. You need to know that I hunt, I fish, I make my dog take baths, so it's not like I'm an animal activist. I just find situations where nature has the upper hand great material for illustrating.

Becky wanted to make sure that I drew a hole in Ron's wadders. Reportedly, he owns (has owned) such a pair. One is tempted to try and ask him, "what good are wadders with a hole?" I guess that is just one of those burning questions that will only be answered in the "Here-After." (Or maybe he'll write me after Christmas - whichever comes first.)

Here is one of the photos Becky sent of their family for me to use while trying to capture the essence of Ron. GOOD LOOKING family! Don't you think? I love the dreamy look of the young one.

Merry Christmas Ronnie. Take care of that beautiful family of yours. It takes a special MAN to be the father of girls. To this fact I can attest.

Ive said it over and over again. You have been truly blessed with a talent! I am soooo excited to present this to Ronnie for Christmas. I just KNOW he will love it! I can testify to the fact that Rick, you are a dream to work with. His ideas are amazing and you have such an awesome way to get things onto paper.

I will certainly be following up as soon as the big guy himself sees the finished product. I am so excited to give him something that he cannot no way no how guess.

THANK YOU!!!
God Bless

What a lovely family! I love the caricature, it is awesome. I love the beaver! Being Canadian, beavers are close to my heart, lol.

Well, this has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with this particular blog entry, but I just had to say that you are TOO transparent. I was reading Dawn's blog, and when I started reading the answers to her "name that movie" and came across answers like "My Large Obese Hellenistic Nuptial Rite" and "Morning Meal Located at "a thin, transparent gauze of silk or cotton muslin." (Look it up.)" (Breakfast at Tiffany's?) - I KNEW it had to be you. Sure enough, it was. Hilarious!!

Oh, and I like the beaver picture too. Merry Christmas!!!

Thanks for the comment. I'll definitely be back.

And how lucky is it that you found me? Just last week I said to hubby that I wish we had a cariacture (sp) of us.... I may be in touch. :)

p.s. - and who said I cleaned up the broken lights? I just put the stakes back in the ground. Hubby cleaned up the glass and replaced the bulbs. I am way too uncoordinated to deal with broken glass.

Your art is no drop of nails, but I really love the approachable quality. I really had fun reading your blog. Slowly, illustrators have been recognized as high art, and I am a strong supporter of that trend. Good luck with all you do. You’re doing great work.
