Facing Down Death

This illustration arises out of my wife's cancer treatment days. It deals with a little more serious subject matter than I am normally illustrate, but my cartoons were my personal therapy during those difficult days. This is one example of some of some of the art that came out of that time.

You may have picked up from some of my earilier posts that I am a person of faith. During a particuarly dark moment, after my wife and I had a visit with her Oncologist, I was feeling particularly discouraged. He had given us some satistics regarding her cancer that were not encouraging. I was fearful about what might happen to her. It was during a troubled moment that I sensed the Lord telling me that I should stop putting my trust in the doctors and put it in Him instead.

It has often been said that doctor only "practice" medicine. I realized that if I was putting my trust in them, then I had every reason to be discouraged. But if I was putting my trust in God -- I always had hope.

Feel free to pass this little cartoon along to anyone that might need some hope.

Thank God for hope.

P.S. I couldn't be completely serious. Eggy is a little hard to find, but he is there.

Okay. Where is there a picture of the egg-man so I know what I'm looking for?? I never find him so maybe if I know what he looks like it would help. I am terrible at this kind of thing.

Amazing! I love the angel showing death where to go!

God is our hope and our strong tower. He is a very present help in time of trouble.

I blog to deal with issues in my life. I'm not a great writer, nor do I always have great inspiration, but I find that blogging relieves my inner stress and allows me to share my faith.

Glad to be able to appreciate your talent. You're incredible!

To Bettejo: This is probably a poor example to show you what the egg-man looks.

Try looking at Dawn's illustration posted on Oct. 18th - at the toe of the shoe - in the grass. You'll see him there.

Ah! Thanks! I was looking for something more complicated than that - maybe I'm better at this than I thought!

Hai Rick, I understand your feeling and situation about your wife... I've been there before.. be strong because God is good all the time, and He will never forsake you...I read Psalm 23 over and over again during the dark moment...

It's my first time here, who/what is eggy?

Is egg-man at the bottom of death? around his feet/staff?

I love this drawing. My dad had rectal cancer and has just recovered recently. He had major surgery to remove it and almost died. He had a rough year last year. My mom died, he had to have open heart surgery and then the cancer. Everything hit him at once. He had to retire a year early because of everything.

But the most important thing is that he gave his Heart to the Lord because of all of that. Sometimes trials are our life for a reason. And sometimes it's even for other people around you.

There is power in prayer!! Jesus is the great physican! :)

i was wondering about egg-man as well...so now i have seen him i will have to do some looking back to find him as i LOVE hidden things. trademarks so to speak... fantastic!

I love the picture today, we have had so many cancer battles in our family and some have ended with life some with death and one thing we have learned is either way God is there for us and even though we may not always agree we have determined that when we pray for Gods will to be done then we must accept what his will is.

Please no one reading get me wrong we dont give up till the last breath is taken and yes Dr's are "practicing" but we have been so very fortunate to have Believers who are our Dr's and that makes a HUGE difference in how we feel.

Hi - thanks for stopping by :-)
Hmmm, I'm going to have to do some backreading to catch up & find out about this egg-man...
Wonderful illustrations here; I recognize the one you did for Dawn - I'm already considering what I would want you to put together for me!

Very nice illustration. Thanks for sharing about your faith. It is that hope that gets me through each day with 2 kids with RAD too.

Would it be ok if I put a link to your blog on my blog?

Rick,
Love the drawing. My husband is currently battling a serious brain tumor. It recurred after 10 years. I blog about our lives as a relatively normal family of 4 other than this major thing hanging over our heads. This week, he has tests and I am blogging each day about our lives during test and results week. YOu can probably relate from the caregiver's point of view. Stop by again if you wish. I love looking at your organized doodles.

To Trinity:The egg-man is basically a tiny circle with arms and legs. It started out as something silly. Then my daughter kept asking me where I hid him, and then everyone else seems want to find him too. Sometimes I forget to doodle him in, but most of the time he is there somewhere. (He or she, I've not drawn in that many details on the character.)

And yes, you may share this illustration from this post. Thank you for asking.

To Candace: You found him - only that supose to be the bottom of the door frame. I find it funny that Eggy is peeking out from death's doorway.

To Brenda: Link away - I'd be honored to have you link to my blog.

How timely! I will share this with a couple in my Sunday School class. They have a friend that has cancer for the second time. I think this will serve as a source of encouragement.
Thanks!

Hello Rick

Have not met you before - but no the Church in the picture is not the Church I go to, I don't use a picture of that, actually I don't own a digital camera. the picture in the Blog is a completely unrelated Church in Paisley.

Good to hear from you anyway! I had breast cancer 4 and a half years ago.

my prayers for you and your family

Thanks for stopping by Rick! And no - Sofie doesn't have her own laptop - that would be a disaster!

Your cartoons are amazing! And it's very cool that you can use them for humor, and also for serious issues. Thanks for sharing your talent!

This post reminds me of when my father was sick with cancer. he was not a survivor but there was a little quote that helped me survive the whole ordeal that he read to me one day.

"Fear knocked at the door. Faith answered. No one was there."

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm excited to check out your other posts as well.
